| ANCIENT ART OF BELLY DANCE History reveals that belly dancing originated in Ancient Persia, over 6, 000 years ago. At that time this fertility dance was performed for the goddess Isis. Used for thousands of years to celebrate the rites of passage into womanhood and serving as practical education child birthing, today we continue the art of belly dance in celebration of femininity and creativity. Explore the mix of sensual motions and vigorous hip movements while uncovering the mysteries of this most ancient form of dance. Held off-campus.

Learn the basics of the Cajun waltz, two-step and jig. Attendees will discover the importance of listening to the music and understanding the count. During this course you will learn: 1) the waltz and two turnouts, 2) the two-step and two turnouts, and 3) the jig, including the basic foot shuffle, arm push-pull, promenade, hip-to-hip, over-the-head, windmill, and four variations of the sweetheart. Held at and in conjunction with Vermilionville and includes a one-time free admission to a Sunday Cajun dance session!

ZYDECO DANCE Learn the moves of Zydeco from a high-energy
instructor who confidently states she can “teach
anyone to dance.” Students will learn how to “feel
the music” and fine-tune their sense of rhythm.
Emphasis will be on positioning the body (from
head to toe) for the basic Zydeco two-step.
During the course you will transform this basic
position into the Zydeco 1) shuffle,
2) back-step, 3) shoulder-shake, and
4) turn/spin.

fun learning a
new spin on a traditional dance that’s sweeping the
nation. Clog Dancing originated as a traditional
percussive folk dance and is also known as foot
stomping, buck dancing and flat footing. We’ve kicked
it up a notch with a fun twist using tap shoes that will
get your feet stomping and tapping enthusiastically to
the beat of bluegrass and country music.
Students will need tap shoes. Absolute Beginners
welcome!
