We are given two ears, but only one mouth. In this course you will be able to evaluate your own listening skills and determine methods to enhance your listening experiences. Learn how to hear the message, understand the message, and judge the message influence on interpersonal communication. We will practice effective listening skills by “acting like a good listener" and applying the "Three C's” of active listening: Connect, Consider and Confirm.

BEGINNER PIANO FOR ADULTS


This course teaches basic skills and theory in piano, which will offer a person the opportunity to explore his or her potential in this art. It provides the background which will allow an individual to enjoy playing basic simple pieces and set the stage for development of this art at a more advanced level. Ages 16 and older. ACT IT OUT! ADULT WORKSHOP IN IMPROVISATIONS


Come join us for a fun filled day of exercises and training devoted to the acting style of improvisation. The exercises will encourage you to listen, use your imagination, work with a group, make choices and increase self-confidence. Local actor/director Bruce Coen will lead you through a journey where you will find out more about yourself and the world around you without realizing it as you joyfully "play".

DOG OBEDIENCE

If you want to start your puppy right or have a problem with your adult dog, this handy course is a must for you. From basic obedience to the highest level of training required in the sport of schutzhund, our instructor has been working with dogs for over 20 years. She has titled dogs in the A.K.C. obedience and breed ring. Her practical common sense approach and understanding of dog behavior will give students the tools necessary to successfully communicate with their pet using continued positive motivational techniques with the tried and true method of command - correction - praise. You will learn how to train your dog to become an integral part of your family. From simply a well-mannered pet to a trustworthy security dog, you have to start with the basics. Families are encouraged to attend. Each dog/handler team will be assessed individually. Training will be designed accordingly. The goal of this class is to produce a happy well adjusted team. All dogs must have a collar and a leash on at all times. Please give dogs name and breed at the time of registration.

GHOST HUNTING 101: A SCIENTIFIC APPROACH TO PARANORMAL INVESTIGATING NEW INVESTIGATION

Ever wanted to explore the mysteries of the paranormal while having fun being spooked by the unknown. Here’s your chance! In this course you’ll study a scientific approach to paranormal investigating, using various types of hightech equipment, as well as skeptical and analytical methods of evidence analysis. You will learn the proper methods of obtaining evidence, what types of evidence to collect, and how to debunk events that have logical explanations. Join “ Louisiana Spirits” Paranormal Investigators as they take you through three sessions: a classroom presentation for the first meeting, then a hands-on investigation of a reportedly "haunted" location to be decided, and finally a third meeting to analyze and discuss our findings. The location will be within a 30 minute drive of campus. Transportation to investigation site is on your own. Happy Hunting!

LEARNING TO FLY: PRIVATE PILOT GROUND SCHOOL

Ever dreamed of flying? This can be your first step in obtaining your private pilot’s license. This is designed to introduce you to airplane systems, communications regulations, weather considerations, FAA rules and policies, radio navigation, airspace utilization, and charting and planning flights. The course helps to prepare you to take the FAA Private Pilot’s Written Test. Aeronautical knowledge required for FAA Pilot Certification. Course materials cost approx. $180.
