DESKTOP SOFTWARE SPECIALIST CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

UL Lafayette’s Desktop Software Specialist Certificate Program is designed for individuals who would like to acquire up-to-date skills in computer software currently being used in business today. Our highly qualified instructors prepare students to acquire computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, presentation media, desktop publishing, e-mail management, and databases. Upon completion, students will be prepared to take the Microsoft Office Specialist exams (optional). By earning their certificates, students can demonstrate proficiencies in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook and Publisher in Microsoft Office 2003 software programs. Skills are developed through practical, hands-on instruction using the latest software in advanced computer laboratories. This program assumes you are familiar with the mouse and keyboard and comfortable navigating through the Windows environment. Particularly, students must be able to open and close programs, click and drag,and manage files and folders. Earning your certificate has never been easier. UL Lafayette Continuing Education offers flexible scheduling. Students have the option to attend classes during the day or evening at their convenience. We even offer beginner courses,such as “PC for the Beginner”and “Windows Fundamentals,” to prepare you before enrolling in the program.

To earn the Desktop Software Specialist Certificate, candidates must complete the 5 core courses (required):

Option 1: Core + Access and Outlook, $1,200
Option 2: Core + Access and Publisher, $1,160
Option 3: Core + Publisher and Outlook, $1,080

MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION - ONLINE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

If Medical Transcription is the field for you, this online course is the last step needed to fulfill your dreams. With this online course, you will have continuous access to an experienced transcriptionist to answer questions and help solve problems. In addition to online access and support materials, students receive extensive tests and study aids, as well as transcription equipment. Students have up to one year to complete the course. This program was developed by medical transcriptionists to take you step-by-step though every competency required to succeed on the job. Through programmed learning, multiple exercises, and building-block progression, students will be prepared to go straight into a home or office based Medical Transcriptionist position. A successful candidate for this program has: computer skills, typing skills, time management skills and attended Medical Transcription Essentials or some type of orientation to verify that they are indeed serious to enter this field. All needed materials are included in the tuition.
Medical Transcription Essentials is recommended prior to taking this course.
