SEW FUN, SEW COOL!


Want to have fun this summer and learn a new hobby? Everyone will learn sewing machine basics as well as construct their own pillow. Lessons will include: sewing machine parts, sewing equipment, how to read the guide sheet, cutting out patterns and fabric, and pillow construction. For ages 10 and up. Cost of materials is about $10-$15 depending on the fabric you pick. Be sure to bring your basic sewing kit as well as your sewing machine to each class.

LITTLE HANDS NEW

We’ll be all about Arts and Crafts, hands on, and plenty of messes. Some of our projects will include: String and Marble Art, using Wood to create sculpture, Expressing Emotions with Paint, Using Model Magic to create, Self portraits, Dot Art, and Painting a special keepsake. *** Students should be able to use scissors. PAINTING PETS NEW

What better way to learn the basics of drawing and painting than by painting your beloved pet! Kids will enjoy this class as we choose a different pet each day to draw and paint with various mediums, including pastels, watercolors, and acrylics. The final project will be a small portrait that each child will create of their own pet, which will be attached to a photo album … ready to be filled with your best pet photos! The exercises that we will go through each day to create our artwork will teach kids the basics of drawing, design perspective, and identifying color values. Ages 7 - 12 years. Includes all supplies.

WATERCOLORS & WATERBASE MEDIA FOR CHILDREN NEW

Classes are conducted in a relaxing and creative environment with background music and some classes will consist of presentations with PowerPoint. Children will work on a group project, and individual projects as well as using watercolor papers and a tapestry linen canvas. A special visit to the Children's Museum and the UL Lafayette Art Museum are included. Supplies will cost approx. $30. Ages 7 - 11 years.

BASIC 3-D AND COLLAGE ART NEW

Children will be introduced to the basic 3-dimensional elements of sculpture through discussions and hands-on manipulation of materials. They will also be introduced to a variety of artists, styles and mediums and touch on materials used for collage such as paper, fabric and textiles, tile, and found objects. Projects include: Additive sculpture, Tile Mosaic, Kinetic Mobiles and Found Object Collage. Ages 8 - 12. All supplies included. Held off campus.

ARTFEST

ART INSPIRED ... BE INSPIRED! COME ONE, COME ALL!

In this 2-day camp, students will visually travel to each continent to explore and create various art forms from around the world.

MAYAN RELIEF SCULPTURE FROM NORTH AMERICA
Students will create their favorite animal in the form of a relief sculpture by using a variety of materials including cardboard, felt, pencils and foil. The background of the image will contain patterns of shapes similar to the style of the Mayans from Mexico.

HENRI MATISSE’S PRINTS IN EUROPE
Get ready to experiment with printmaking! Students will create symmetrical geometric and organic designs in the form of printmaking by stamping sponges into tempura paint onto paper similar to the style of Henri Matisse, a Master artist from France.

CHINESE SCROLLS IN ASIA
Fashion Chinese scrolls from paper and dowels that actually roll up just like the ancient scrolls did in the Orient. Original landscapes will be drawn then painted with watercolor paint which is a tradition in China.

ADRINKA CLOTHS IN AFRICA
Learning about the patterns and meanings of Adinkra symbols from Ghana will encourage students to create an original cloth of their own. Students will use black markers to draw repetitive Adinkra symbols, lines and shapes onto actual cloth in the similar style of the Akan people of Ghana. Course includes all supplies and snacks. Bring your bag lunch and an apron or smock. Ages 7 - 12. Space is limited.

FLOWER POWER

No shrinking violets! Create stunning floral masterpieces that explode with summer color! We begin with the basic tools and techniques that professional florists use in their designs including flower birthday cakes, conditioning, cutting, maintaining, and preserving. You’ll then discover the secrets of floral design, shape, and construction to make exquisite, fresh floral arrangements. All you need is a passion to create and a fondness for color! Ages 8 and up. Includes all flowers and supplies. Bring your brown bag lunch. Space is limited.
